about the wave foundation
ABOUT FRIENDS OF FINSTITUTE
Each year the WAVE Foundation receives hundreds of requests from teachers, school administrators and youth groups seeking financial assistance so their students may have the opportunity to participate in our unique Finstitute program and visit the Newport Aquarium. In response to the demand and need for these funds, the WAVE Foundation founded the Friends of Finstitute Program in 2006. Friends of Finstitute provides funds for underprivileged students to participate in the WAVE Foundation’s education programs at the Newport Aquarium. In the first year, WAVE raised over $35,000 for Friends of Finstitute which funded more than 4000 children in our community to attend Finstitute.

.

This year WAVE hopes to fund over 8000 children to participate, but to do so we need help. If you would like to contribute to Friends of Finstitute to underwrite an underprivileged student or sponsor a class, please contact the WAVE Foundation at 859.815.1442 or email wave@newportaquarium.com.

thank you Friends of finstitute...
"As a teacher, I am always taking time to research and gather materials to supplement the curriculum I am teaching and it often takes hours of my time. Your curriculum packet on penguins is the most extensive and complete reference tool that I have ever received while preparing for a field trip. Thank you for using your knowledge and resources to help me prepare my students for their trip to the aquarium.

When businesses and educators work together in teaching our youth about the world they live in, the experience becomes twice as powerful for all who are involved.

With your help, I am able to provide the students of Lindeman Elementary an experience they would never be able to afford on their own.

Thank you again for your help and support"

about the finstitute
The Finstitute is the educational arm of the WAVE Foundation created to educate our community and promote awareness about marine environments and the importance of conservation.

Finstitute brings field trips to the Newport Aquarium to a new level with a selection of unique classroom experiences designed to improve the quality of educational visits. Through the Finstitute, students can participate in a 45-minute lesson that teaches them about aquatic life, chemistry, physics and the sciences in a fun, hands-on way.

Currently, Finstitute offers seven curriculum lessons for grades K-8, each of which is aligned with Kentucky, Ohio and National Science Education Standards.
