The world’s oceans are home to seven species of sea turtles. Of the seven species of sea turtles, six are
found in U.S. waters: green, hawksbill, Kemp's Ridley, leatherback, loggerhead, and Olive Ridley. Sadly, all six are
endangered or threatened by extinction. Sea turtles are threatened due to the loss or degradation of their nesting
habitat from coastal development, nest predation, commercial trawling, and long-line fishing, water pollution, and
beachfront light pollution which confuses baby hatchlings. Sea turtles are in need of protection in order to ensure
their survival as a species. The WAVE Foundation supports the effort to protect these beautiful animals by funding
satellite tags used to research and track loggerhead turtles off the coast of North Carolina. For more information
